Slip and antiblock masterbatches: the foundation of stable film production

In plastic film production, issues such as high friction, blocking, difficult bag opening, poor unwinding or unstable processing can significantly affect productivity. Slip and antiblock masterbatches are two fundamental additive groups used to address these issues.

Slip additives reduce the coefficient of friction on film surfaces, supporting winding, cutting, packaging and end-use handling. Antiblock additives reduce the tendency of film layers to stick together, especially in thin films, PE films and bag applications.

Companies such as Tosaf and Ampacet maintain broad additive portfolios for film, including slip, antiblock, antistatic, processing aid, stabilizer, matte compounds and white masterbatch. This shows that seemingly basic additives remain critical in large-scale production.

However, there is no universal slip/antiblock formulation for every application. Performance depends on base resin, film thickness, layer structure, temperature, line speed, storage time, printing, sealing and food-contact requirements.

For manufacturers, the best approach is to test under real production conditions and then optimize dosage to balance technical performance and cost.
